Life is busy.
Early mornings, deadlines, client meetings, late nights, traffic jams, and that’s just work. Then there’s your personal life. Despite these increasingly busy times, have you leaned back in your chair on a Friday afternoon and thought to yourself, “I made a real difference this week?”
I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of the JohnstonWells team, which, among many things, means that giving back to the community is a job requirement. Since its inception, JohnstonWells has created a culture of giving back to the community, and not only because it is good for business … because it’s the right thing to do.
A few of the organizations that I’ve volunteered with include Denver Urban Gardens, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Little Sisters of the Poor and Brent’s Place.
Wondering how you can give back?
- Do you have a personal connection to a nonprofit? Think about initiatives, nonprofits or efforts that resonate with you. This natural alignment often creates more passion and motivation to give back to your philanthropic venture.
- Not sure how to get started? Perhaps you love animals, but don’t know where you’d be the most effective. Check out Volunteer Match, where you can easily find great causes to connect with. Or, check out Metro Volunteers, for volunteer opportunities at diverse service organizations throughout Denver.
- Is your business already affiliated with a nonprofit? Find out how you can get more involved in an already established relationship.
- What are you good at? Nonprofits can always use the service of people in nearly every arena. Think about your line of work and approach a selected nonprofit about non-traditional ways you could help (outside of donating money) using your craft.
Remember, many small steps equal huge strides. If you’re feeling stretched, find small ways to help… they really add up! Check out your local grocery store…is there a food drive you can support by heading up a small donation group at your office? Does your child’s school have an after-school tutoring program you could volunteer at once a month? Check a nursing home or homeless shelter for holiday wish lists for residents.
Remember, tis always the season for sharing!
