Bene Gourmet Pizza, an award-winning fast-casual pizza concept with locations in North Cherry Creek and Greenwood Village, has partnered with Food Bank of the Rockies and Regis Jesuit High School Boys and Girls Divisions to support Denver’s hungry population.

From March 30 through April 6, 2007, Regis High School students will compete in a food drive to benefit Food Bank of the Rockies.  Winners will receive a prize trophy and pizza parties from Bene Gourmet Pizza.

“The goal of this program is to open the eyes of young people to the hunger problem in the U.S. and specifically in their community,” said Bene owners Kevin and Erika Cohen. The program will be modeled after successful drives in Eugene, Ore., where Bene has two additional locations. This is the first food drive co-sponsored by Bene and Food Bank of the Rockies in Colorado.

The drive will begin with a video presentation to the Regis students about Colorado’s hunger problem, which affects all ages [see the video].  The food drive will create a healthy competition among the four grades at Regis. Students will race to donate the needed food items that will later be distributed throughout northern Colorado and Denver.

“Nearly 15 percent of children live in hunger in our state,” said Kevin Seggelke, president and CEO of Food Bank of the Rockies. “We applaud Bene’s efforts to educate and engage our youth in such a worthy cause.”

Always involved in the community, Bene also sponsors “Bene Gives,” a program that allows the company and its employees to give back to the community, particularly in the areas of sustainability, hunger relief and youth education.
