Casper, Wyo – The Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA) board of directors has appointed David M. Haney as executive director of the WCDA. He will start work on September 20 at WCDA’s office in Casper.
A nationally recognized leader in community and economic development, Haney brings extensive expertise to the WCDA through his work and community service in both workforce housing and the banking industry. WCDA selected Haney after completing a nationwide search.
“The WCDA is stepping up its efforts to meet the state’s changing needs, most recently by developing the idea behind the new workforce housing program to help cities develop infrastructure for housing,” said Governor Dave Freudenthal.
Freudenthal added: “David Haney’s arrival at the WCDA marks an enhanced role for the organization in meeting the challenging housing needs in Wyoming. He brings not only many years of expertise in developing innovative programs, but also a sense of excitement about tackling the tough problems of sufficient housing for a rapidly growing workforce in our communities. I expect David to lead the organization to becoming a national leader in workforce housing issues.”
A Colorado native, Haney has deep roots in the Rocky Mountain region. He also played a critical role in WCDA’s strategic planning efforts in 2006 and became known to the Board of Directors as a thoughtful and innovative leader. “In a long and thorough search, David Haney rose quickly to the top of our list. The breadth of work and experience in workforce housing and community development that he brings to the WCDA will be a tremendous benefit to the people of Wyoming,” said John Stoll, chairman of the WCDA. Most recently, Haney served as senior vice president for the Bank of America’s Northern New England franchise and was chairman of the board for the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority (NHHFA) and the New Hampshire Workforce Housing Coalition. He was the founding chair of Manchester Neighborhood Housing Services and the New Hampshire Community Reinvestment Corporation, a consortium of 29 New Hampshire banks and the NHHFA intended to raise the availability and consistency of financing for affordable rental housing. He was also vice president of the National Council State Housing Boards and has served on several boards of organizations focused on affordable housing. “The energy boom and the corresponding growth in Wyoming have created major housing challenges across the state,” said Haney. “Home ownership for the people who live, work and raise families in Wyoming is critical to the strength of communities in the state. WCDA has a great track record in housing and I am thrilled with the opportunity to continue its efforts to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.” A graduate of the University of Colorado and the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking, Haney succeeds outgoing Executive Director George Axlund, who retired after more than 30 years of service to the WCDA.
