Chief Executive Officer and Founder

Gwinavere founded JohnstonWells in 1971. Even after 40 years in the business, she frequently acknowledges that she learns something new every day. Her work in strategic planning, media strategy, corporate social responsibility and crisis communications continues to grow.

She has established important relationships with Colorado’s business leaders, government officials, key nonprofit organizations and media. Under her leadership, JohnstonWells is recognized as a leading public relations firm, both regionally and nationally.  The firm received the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts 2003 Small Business Award of the Year and the 2003 National Philanthropy Day in Colorado Award for Outstanding Small Business. In addition, the brightly painted walls and colorful folk art collection brought JohnstonWells the Creative Work Space of the Year award from the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts in 2005.

Senior Associate
As Senior Associate for JohnstonWells, Dan brings expertise in media and community relations, crisis communications, social media, business to business, and business development.

Prior to joining JohnstonWells in 2010, Dan served as the Director of Communications for The Alexander Company, a Madison, Wisconsin-based real estate developer. During his tenure at the firm he successfully garnered profile stories in the New York Times, Associated Press, National Public Radio, Washington Post, and Modern Luxury magazine (amongst many others). He also authored stories for real estate trade publications including Land Development, Environmental Design & Construction, Builder/Architect, and Multifamily Trends.

Associate
Teresa joined JohnstonWells as an associate in April 2010, after an internship with the firm, and brings experience in social media strategy, writing, event planning and web design.

Prior to joining the team at JohnstonWells, Teresa coordinated public relations for One Tribe Creative, a Fort Collins-based branding and marketing firm. She has also worked as a marketing intern for Association for Student Activity Programming at Colorado State University and a web design intern for the Colorado State University College of Liberal Arts IT office.

She manages social media implementation and assists in media relations support for clients and aids with business development on behalf of JohnstonWells.

Financial Director
With 15 years of financial management experience in the public relations and advertising agency settings, Mark directs operations and accounting functions at JohnstonWells.  In this role, he analyzes staff utilization, profitability and manages financial aspects of the business.

Previously, he was financial director at Euro RSCG San Francisco, an advertising agency that serviced national clients, including Charles Schwab and Visa America. Also in San Francisco, he was controller at Blanc and Otus Public Relations.  His experience and understanding of the ways creative agencies operate ensures that JW delivers maximum value to clients in return for their investment.

Of Counsel

Recognized for his expertise in crisis management, public affairs and speech writing, Threlkeld, who is now retired, spearheaded JW’s work in crisis communication and public affairs. He also directed award-winning grassroots issues campaigns for a variety of clients, including PacifiCare of Colorado and the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry.

Before beginning his career in public relations, Threlkeld was a reporter and editor for 15 years at the Denver Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post. His beats included Washington correspondent, state and local government affairs reporter and editorial page writer.
