Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper recently appointed JohnstonWells founder Gwinavere A. Johnston as a commissioner to the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA). The mission of the DOCA is to advance culture and the arts in the City and County of Denver. The Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs acts as an advisory board to the DOCA, and is comprised of accomplished Denver leaders in arts, business and education. Johnston was a natural selection for the commission, having established strong relationships with Colorado business leaders, government officials, nonprofit organizations and media since founding JohnstonWells almost four decades ago. Under her leadership, JohnstonWells received many awards, including the 2003 Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA) Small Business of the Year and the 2003 National Philanthropy Day in Colorado Award for Outstanding Small Business. In addition, JohnstonWells’ bright office décor and colorful folk art collection earned Creative Work Space of the Year honors from the CBCA in 2005. |
