More than 40 judges, attorneys and court advocates for youth came together for a presentation by JohnstonWells’ Diane Amdur and Breanna Deidel, offering insight into the world of social networking and teens.
Attendees learned more about five of the major social media applications that this key audience is utilizing, as well as the potential risks and topical issues surrounding these online communities.
Some of the information shared included:
- Teens are not accessing applications like Twitter nearly as much as MySpace and Facebook.
- “Hanging out” often means chatting on Facebook and/or MySpace.
- In the case of cyberbullying, teen victims have a lack of escape from cruel comments in cyberspace due to advances in technology.
- Despite warnings and safety tips, teens are still over sharing on social networking sites.
Attendees not only earned CLE credits, they walked away with a better understanding of teens and social networking.
